The Mission of Hope Community Health Center is to provide affordable holistic and preventative medical care to the uninsured in the East Valley while demonstrating compassion and sharing, with willing patients, the love of Jesus Christ.

Hope Community Health Center utilizes a holistic approach to health care. By "holistic" we are not referring to herbal therapies or massage, but rather encompassing the entire health of a person: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Numerous studies have shown that patients consider spirituality an important aspect of their overall health. We believe that a person can never be completely well without the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Therefore, HCHC staff will seek opportunities to address spiritual issues throughout a patient's visit. However, access to medical care, medications or social services will never be dependent on participation in spiritual discussion.

From the moment a patient enters the center, a needs assessment will take place. Financial screening will be taken initially to assess need for services. If a patient qualifies for Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS, state medical aid) they will be treated, then referred to the Dept. of Economic Security. Our services will be reserved for the uninsured, who truly have no other access to health care. If food or clothing needs are identified, referrals to local services or food banks can be given.

Chaplains will circulate among patients in the waiting area to give additional opportunity to identify physical, emotional and spiritual concerns. Chaplains will serve under the leadership of Rev. Dave Engel, who received a Masters of Divinity from Denver Seminary. Chaplains will be available after the medical visit as well, both in the clinic and for home visits, if desired.

During the visit with the doctor, a spiritual history will be taken, and if a patient is interested in discussing spiritual issues, the medical staff will share the gospel. Staff and volunteers are trained via the Christian Medical and Dental Association's "Saline Solution" to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Essential primary care services will be provided including treatment of acute illnesses, well child care, including immunizations, and well adult visits (basic preventative care). Discounted laboratory and x-ray services are available if needed.

HCHC is a Christian ministry designed to address all aspects of a person's needs. Access to services will never be dependent upon a person's willingness to accept Christian views, but HCHC seeks to open the door for discussion with every patient. Patients who do desire further information about Christianity will be organized into home fellowship groups and encouraged to attend local church services.
